About us
Acomb Quakers are a community of diverse people who come together to worship in silence every Sunday. We believe that this allows each one of us, and the community as a whole, to connect with the wisdom that comes out of stillness.
Individuals are often led to pursue particular interests in order to let our faith be shown through our actions. As a community we support one another in discerning the way ahead.

Some of our activities
Getting together
We come together as a community for a Shared Lunch every month. This is a “pot luck” meal where people bring food to share. We usually have a short talk beforehand, presented by one of our members. These talks can be stimulating, informative and often surprising. Having a shared meal is a good chance to get to know one another better.
Supporting good causes
We collect money each month for a different charity which is chosen and promoted by one of our community. This enables all of us to support one another by affirming our members’ interests.
Sometimes we help more actively, such as running a book stall on Acomb Green during the ADAM Festival raising funds for York City of Sanctuary. We have also had a stall in support of York Pride on the Knavesmire. Two energetic members ran the York 10K in aid of the Butterfly Appeal for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which is raising money for a new maternity bereavement suite. A group from Acomb raises money annually by singing Carols at York Station in aid of various charities. Two members have been particularly active in supporting Care4Calais and have spent a week in Calais each year helping with distribution of food and clothing to refugees.
Wydale Hall
Acomb Quakers have residential weekends at Wydale Hall every couple of years. We explore a chosen theme in a peaceful setting away from our everyday lives. This gives us the opportunity to enjoy facilitated groups and other activities, such as walks in the surrounding countryside. A weekend away is a chance to get to know one another better in a relaxed setting. There are beautiful grounds to explore and the food is fabulous.
For more information about the setting, please see the Wydale Hall website.
